I have been into RC for quite some time now, and have had pretty much all the different classes there are in the cars and trucks. I tend to stick with off-road models.
That comes with a lot of repairs and hazards, especially when it comes to electrics. Nitros tend to be messy and hard to run without annoying neighbors.
SO I wanted something durable, reliable and that had some punch to it. The VXL(brushless motor) in the 2wd is FAST! I have ran this dog in every terrain I could find and it flies over and through it all.
Pros: fast! - good radio - good chassis - comes with a good battery - takes a beating - water proof (motor, ESC, Receiver box is)
- tons of upgrades
Cons: stock tires suck - not ALL of the truck is water proof (bearings and axles) - traction (again better tires will fix this problem)
I found after a 30 min run in the rain and mud that the rear bearings had to be replaced and that buildup caught in the axles will put bad wear on...Read more

Great product. Lots of fan. Fast. Incredible handling and power. Parts are available at dealers or at Traxxas and the price is very reasonable. A good purchase.

I reviewed the Stampede XL-5 (now a brushless system for me)...so its pretty similar to this one.
My only gripe - the parts starts adding up, so learn to drive lmao.
I suggest upgrading the suspension to STR parts (aluminum), especially the castor blocks, and A-arms because they will break in due time.
After I got my Stampede for my 7 year old as his b-day gift I went and got the Slash 2wd VXL and now we have a blast together. Its a great bonding time with kids too.
Traxxas is a great company with a great service support. This is not a cheap hobby since parts will break depending on use. So if youre a newbie go Training Mode before you attempt Sport (default) or Race mode. Dont even think about going into Lipo 3S territory (up to 65mph) if you're not an expert yet or you will spend a ton on parts alone. The parts are cheap but it will add up.
