Build quality is good but whether it works or not out of the box seems to be another issue. Obviously these are not tested at the factory before being shipped and at this price point, there are going to be some issues. Syma is a Chinese company, the product is built in China and as soon as you see the "instructions" you'll realize there haven't been any native English speakers involved with this product. Bottom line on quality is - buy it from Amazon (where it is actually fulfilled by Amazon) as the return policy is no questions asked. If it doesn't work right out of the box, put everything back together and ship it back and order another. Most off Amazon retailers won't take it back once the box has been opened so basically you get no warranty.
Lots of folks seem to have issues with the transmitter/receiver. Assuming they aren't both DOA, it is really critical to do two things: Sync the transmitter to the receiver as instructed - it's just turning on the...Read more

Let's start off by saying that this is the first outdoor RC helicopter I've owned. However I have a small fleet of indoor RC's, including 3 S107G's which is what the S031G is modeled after. The gyro is incredible, as is the super easy trim dial. Despite the fact that I broke the upper blade grip the first time out (hit the only metal light pole in 1000ft radius), I'd say this is a VERY durable little machine. The main rotor blades are strong -- too strong. My local hobby guy had the part in stock. However, while examining it he noticed that I have the old style battery rather than the new LiPo battery which explains the 75 - 90 min. charging time. The new LiPo is one of the improvements supposedly made to the "G" model. At least I still get an honest 10-15 minutes per charge. Speaking of "power" the S031G is extremely underpowered by design, when facing even the slightest headwind. It's got OK lift, but the horizontal tail rotor blade is too small or needs to be completely...Read more

Very solid piece of flying equipment. The gyro system is top-notch and only requires VERY minor trimming out of the box! Maiden flight was in a small kitchen area and stuck the landing perfectly! This model is the absolute, by far, the best I've used for beginner / advanced-beginner training. With such stable flight, you can really put the craft through the paces and focus less on over- / under-controlling the flight path. Pros: stabilized elevation stick, durable heli body with forgiving rotors, easy to set up and start flying, very responsive to all stick movements, VERY inexpensive replacement parts are available, and can move very fast when placed in the tail rotor 'boost' mode. Cons: wish it had the 4th channel for even further advanced training just short of moving to single-rotor equipment. Overall - couldn't be happier!
