rational expectations for a toy,

I purchased one of these from another vender sometime ago. I was pleased by the level of detail. It is more toy like than the torpedo boat and Destroyer RC boats out there, but it still has impressive detail for a toy considering the size of the ship it appears to be modeled after. Some of the finer details break off easily but this does not affect the function of the boat. It looks very much like a Russian Kiev Class aircraft carrier ( or "aviation cruiser") in approximately 1/350 scale. After having it for a while I disassembled it and painted more to scale, it looks great as is but with a nice scale paint job it is even better.
I have lake tested this boat . It seems to list to the side with the super structure. After running in a pond I added some ballast to compensate. One thing to note: the battery is more difficult to get to than other similar boats. Hooking up the provided charger it is easy but using another faster charger or changing out the battery is not so...Read more

This is not to discourage potential buyers of this product. I own one of this supposed to be rc aircraft carrier from another seller but discovered it is only good for display or decoration. The control range is too short - only about 40 ft. at best. The ship moves at speed boat speed in the water which means on full scale imagine an aircraft carrier traveling as fast as a jetliner. No full scale aircraft carrier runs this fast anywhere in the universe.
My yacht rc scale model is better. It has about 200 ft control range. It moves at an engineered scale speed. The receiver batteries last over 45 mins and will return slowly but safely back to shore with enough fuel left.
Bottom line: This rc aircraft carrier should not be in the market without improvements particularly on control range and fuel consumption. You will not be happy or enjoy running a hobby ship that travels only 60 ft away and runs out of fuel after about 20 mins. Thank you very much.

The Radio Control Challenger Aircraft Carrier is a nice model of a Russian Kiev Class ship. There were two of these built. Detailing is very nice, but the toy-like stickers should be removed and the bright silver areas painted gray for a more relastic look. Unfortunately the manufacturer did not weight this model correctly and when on the water it tends to list (lean) to one side. With some careful work with lead fishing sinkers glued inside and floating in a sink or bath tub the boat can be balanced better. The speed on the water is faster than the real boats speed. This can be cured usuing RC Batteries that are lower voltage 6.9 instead of 9.6 volts.I recommend atleast two charged batteries when operating, that way you can keep sailing when one is used up. A Child Proof Safety Interlock prevents the ship from being operated out of the water.Instructions fail to mention this, the boat must be in the water to run or two clip lead wires connected between the motors when out of the water...Read more
